THE JOWAS STORY

Jowayne van Wyk is the founder of Jowas Spices and Sauces. Hailing from a small town, his dream was to create something unique.  In his rugby days, Jowayne played for the Springboks U19’s and in 2005 gained the name “Jowa” amongst his teammates.

This became a trademark at gatherings and at university, and the brand “Jowa’s” was born.

In 2015, due to his love for braaiing, Jowayne bought a “Gas braai” as he wanted a quick way to have a “karoo tjoppie” on a Wednesday without having to go through the whole fire-making process in the middle of the week. Looking back seven years ago, videos of his braaiing were posted on Facebook, and Jowa gained the name the “Braai Master.”

Jowa lost his mother during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and to honour her memory, he decided to go all out with his dream he shared with her to create an empire to support the community members to earn a living.

Jowa always had a taste for good spices and sauces and decided to launch his very own Jowa’s Spices and Sauces. Within nine months, more than 25 000 units of his product were sold. The social media customers started the hashtag “#Thepeople’sspice.”

Jowa’s created a different model that landed him “The Founder Jowayne van Wyk was in 2021 a finalist in the Top35 Chartered Accountants in South Africa”. Jowa’s developed a system of “Jowa’s Virtual Ownership,” allowing each owner to have a virtual store and sell the brand to various communities, thereby financially impacting the livelihoods of the store owners for a better future.

Jowa understood that a lovely braai or gathering would not be complete without a decent coffee and recently launched the “Jowa’s Coffee” range in beans, plungers, and filters for consumers and coffee shops.

Through his passion, Jowa became involved in fundraising through “Jowa’s on Wheels Food Truck” to feed the underprivileged in impoverished communities.

Jowa’s vision is to create a brand that everyone wants to be associated with from all walks of life.

Jowa’s mission is to be “#thepeoplesspice&sauces” at all braais and cooking events and create Jowa’s Coffee to be the coffee of choice for every coffee lover.

Jowa’s group will in the future be an employer of choice due to its customers that understands the vision of the brand.

Jowayne Shadwill van Wyk is from a small town called Sutherland in the Karoo where talent is enough, but resources are a limitation. At the age of 13, he was fortunate to visit the US Space and Rocket Center in the USA and to represent South Africa.
